Fang-Hua Hao

A native of Jiangsu Province born in 1963. She is a CPC member, holds a doctorate, and works as a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. She also serves as the Vice President of Beijing Normal University. Hao presides over international communication, affairs relating to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, international Chinese education, financing, logistics insurance and education fund and alumni work. She is responsible for the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation (Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs), the Administration Department of the Confucius Institute, the Student International Education Center, the Office of Logistics Affairs, the Foreign Affairs Liaison Department (Education Fund) and the Alumni Office.

Hao graduated as a Hydrology and Water Resources major from Hohai University and obtained a Master of Science degree there in 1988. She earned Ph.D. in Science at Beijing Normal University in September 2003. She worked as a teacher at BNU from June 1988 and was promoted to associate professor in 1995 and then professor in 2001. Hao served as the Senior Visiting Scholar at the University of Hawaii and University of California, Berkeley, in 2001 and 2004, respectively. She served as Vice Dean of the Institute of Environment Science (IEC), Dean of the IEC, Secretary of the Branch Committee of the CPC School of the Environment and Director of the Department of International Communication and Cooperation.

Hao’s research is mainly on environmental assessment, planning and management, basin non-point source pollution and water resources protection and planning. She has led or participated in research for state “973” and “863” projects, key and surface projects supported by the State Natural Science Fund, key (important) provincial/ministerial projects and breakthrough subjects, and she has published more than eighty academic books and papers.

Hao has won dozens of prizes, including the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award (Class II), the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education (Class I), the Beijing Scientific and Technological Progress Award (Class I and Class II), the Dayu Hydraulic Scientific and Technological Award of the Ministry of Water Resources (Class II), the Beijing Education and Teaching Achievement Award (Class II), The Most Popular Teacher Among BNU Undergraduates Award and has been an Outstanding CPC Member of Beijing Normal University.

Currently, Hao is a Member of the IWRA, a Board Member of the China Education Association for International Exchange, a Board Member of the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development, editor of International Journal of Environment and Waste Management (IJEWM), and Core Expert of the EU International Cooperation Project.
